Return to the Infinite
BIENALSUR, 2021
Curated by Diana Wechsler
Sand, black pigment, resin, industrial table with motorized rollers.
First presented as part of the 2021 edition of BIENALSUR, Echoes: A World between the Analogue and the Virtual, and subsequently included in Art of the Kingdom: Poetic Illumination at SAMoCA, 2025.
Sand in its natural state exists in constant fluidity, like ever-shifting narratives and readings. In Return to the Infinite, rigid interpretations take the form of five core readings — pillars of sand, black pigment, and resin — resting on an industrial table of spinning rollers. As the pillars slowly rotate over the course of the exhibition, they break down into grains that pile up below the table. Each core reading disintegrates at a different rate, as each returns to the infinite.
