Letters in Light (Lines we Write)
For the inaugural Islamic arts biennale, Jeddah 2023
The work responds to the architecture of the galleries, combining their large scale with the delicacy of thousands of fine threads that emerge from and disappear into the walls of the buildings. We follow these threads through different spaces where our perception of them is affected by light-at times they shine bright, at others they appear obscure, even black. The journey suggests no fixed destination, only the essential changeability of the individual’s understanding of faith. Each viewer brings their own experience to the work, connecting in different ways with its expression of discovery and loss, certainty and uncertainty, questioning and acceptance, the tangible and intangible nature of the spiritual in our lives.
