Approaching Stillness
Commissioned by Black Gold Museum, Riyadh Saudi Arabia
Countless ideologies, systems, and beliefs have sprung from fables of infinite springs. Whether envisioned as miraculous waters promised to never stop flowing or as boundless reserves of liquid energy, these wells become the towering pillars that carry human ambition. They hold the absolute promise of endless power and perpetual flow. They become relentless devices and stories we drive forward at all costs, engineered and willed to never pause.
Yet alongside the myth of perpetual motion, there are also fables of approaching stillness. We cast our gaze toward a vertical horizon, imagining the edge where every torrent must eventually exhaust its source. This is not a declaration that our reality is currently slowing down. It is an exploration of the inevitable quiet that waits when colossal narratives finally run their course.
Approaching Stillness is a meditation on this exact silence. The stillness it envisions is not a physical halt or a literal loss of momentum. It is the profound, echoing quiet that remains when the fables of infinite springs are finally silenced.
